It’s so great chatting with makerspace makers like you because this stuff we do is such a grand social experiment that I’ll take all the affirmation I can get. An epilogue: at the Maker Expo event we went out into the community with soldering irons, LEDs and PCBs and taught 520 people how to solder in the course of the weekend. All credit to the dedicated students that animate our space. Of course, the soldering skills are important, but even better was the connection with folks ranging in age from 4 to 84, from all walks of life who we got to meet and teach.
