Inquiry Simulator

The task here is to make sure that you know what your teacher's opinion is on the topic at hand. You talk to your teacher. You ask questions. You talk to your friends and make sure that you're on the same page as your teacher. With luck, you might even be able to get some direction as to what resources you can use. Once you have that, writing the essay becomes relatively easy.

The unfortunate thing about this approach is that it works more often than it should. It is human nature to have a positive reponse to ideas that we agree with and when faced with a stack of term papers, a stance that you already understand is easier to read and mark. It takes less thought.

Whether the approach works or not is, ultimately, somewhat beside the point. The learning process results in looking at a single opinion or stance. The research is decidedly narrow and does consider multiple viewpoints. It is focused on proving something that one already knows and not learning something for oneself.
